AI Hiring Platform Eightfold Faces Lawsuit Over Secret Applicant Scoring
Two job seekers have filed a federal class-action lawsuit against AI hiring platform Eightfold, alleging the company secretly scores applicants using artificial intelligence without their knowledge. The lawsuit, filed in California’s Contra Costa County Superior Court, claims violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and California’s Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.
Eightfold allegedly collects sensitive personal data from public sources like LinkedIn and GitHub, using it to generate proprietary "Match Scores" for candidates applying to major companies such as Microsoft, PayPal, and Morgan Stanley. Plaintiffs argue lower-ranked applicants are often rejected before human review, raising concerns about transparency and fairness in AI-driven hiring.
